AGRITOURISTIC FARM   “LA SELVETELLA”  Caiazzo

The agricultural activity of the farm takes place on about 180 hectares, which are used in rotation with different cultivation.

The greatest part of the fields is cultivated with autumnal-winter cereals; a great part of the growing is occupied by hard corn, which is near by barley, oats and spelt. Once the growing of the spelt was neglected;  today it is appreciated for its culinary features. As a matter of fact, it is one of the most employed ingredients for soups and salads. The growing of the maize is also very important, which is picked and transformed to be used as fodder and, in grains, as feeding for the farm cattle. Other fodder plants are the Sulla, the lucern, the loietto and oats, mixed with different cereals.

The olive grove has an extension of about 2 hectares and consists of plants used for the production of cooking oil, the most of them belonging to the caiazzana variety; this olive oil, obtained by a cold crushing in local oil presses, is used in the agritouristic activity, for own use or to be sold.

NoteGreat attention and care are given to the garden, which provides the agritouristic cooking with the main raw materials. Egg plants of different varieties, sauce and salad tomatoes, peppers and chillies, salads, legumes, pumpkins and zucchini, potatoes, onions and garlic are cultivated without using any chemical

In the farm, according to the season, you can take delight in picking the delicate flavour wild asparagus, plentiful in March and April, while, from the end of March till September, you can pick the vegetables directly from the fields; after the crop, in the agritouristic kitchen, you can attend some courses to prepare and to exalt the natural flavour of fresh products and you can learn the right combining food-wine, preferring Campania wines.
